Taxi Service in Munnar

Munnar sits at 1,600 metres in the Idukki high range, four hours from Kochi through tea country. The drive itself is half the trip — the road climbs past Neriamangalam bridge, Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls, and then into the estates. It is not a road to rush, and it is not a road for a tired driver.

Munnar taxi — questions we get asked

How long is the drive from Kochi to Munnar?
Around 3.5 hours from the airport, 4 hours from Ernakulam city, covering 110-130km. The last 60km is ghat road, so allow buffer.
Which vehicle is best for Munnar?
An Ertiga or Innova Crysta. The ghat climb is easier on a higher-powered car, and luggage space matters when the boot is shared with jackets and shopping.
Can I do Munnar as a day trip from Kochi?
Possible but punishing — eight hours of driving for four hours in the hills. Two nights is the honest minimum.
Are the roads safe at night?
We do not recommend descending the ghat after dark. Elephant crossings and fog are both real. Plan arrivals before sunset.
